Yellow Crane Tower: A Legendary View Over the Yangtze 黄鹤楼:长江边的传奇楼阁 Perched on Snake Hill in Wuhan, Hubei Province, the Yellow Crane Tower (黄鹤楼 Huánghè Lóu) is more than just a beautiful structure—it's a symbol of poetic legend and cultural depth in Chinese history. Originally built during the Three Kingdoms period (三国时期 Sānguó shíqī), the tower has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. The current version, restored in 1985, still captures the imagination of visitors with its golden eaves, dragon carvings, and sweeping views over the Yangtze River (长江 Chángjiāng) . One of the most famous poems in Chinese literature was inspired by this tower. Written by Cui Hao (崔颢) during the Tang Dynasty, the poem begins: > 昔人已乘黄鹤去,此地空余黄鹤楼。 The old friend rode off on a yellow crane, all that remains is Yellow Crane Tower.
